In the early morning sunlight Saturday at Johnson Park, Ashleigh Stacy couldn’t help but smile when she made contact with the softball.

Stacy was one of 15 kids who participated in the Batting for a “Miracle: Miracle League Hit-a-Thon,” and the event raised at last count, $2,598 as of Monday afternoon, event coordinator Dana Barefoot said.

“And we don’t have all the money counted,” Barefoot said.

Barefoot said Roy Mohon of the Gitty-Up-N-Go stores will match $2,500 of the monies raised. The total amount raised, which will be available on Thursday after all of the pledges are turned in, will be more than $5,000, she said.

Additionally, Barefoot said she won’t know who raised the most money and got the longest hit until Thursday.

“It was a lot of fun,” Barefoot said about Saturday’s event. “(Stacy) made my day. It was worth it to meet her. David (Messick) was really good, too.”
