Moody Blues Steakhouse owners Tamra and Lee Williams said that good customer service, made-from-scratch food and a fresh atmosphere sets their business apart from the others that have been located in the Heath location.

“We’re a steakhouse, and we specialize in steak, burgers, seafood and pork chops,” Tamra Williams said. “Our appetizers are hits, too, especially our onion petals.”

They offer filet mignon, t-bones and rib eye steaks.

Prices are also affordable, the couple said, and children eat for $1 with the purchase of adult plates.

“We wanted to attract a younger audience,” Tamra Williams said. “We had a lot of senior regulars, and we noticed we didn’t have a lot of families with children in our restaurant. We wanted to attract them here.”

While Moody Blues actually opened in January, the Williams took over in May.

“We’re doing pretty well,” Lee Williams said. “We stay really busy, and we’ve had an 80 percent increase in business since mid-May.”

The restaurant is a family-run business that includes Tamra’s mother and brother, and the couple’s older two children also help.

“We have five children, and one on the way,” she said. “I started here as a cook, two weeks later I was managing, and a month later, we owned it. The opportunity just fell in our laps.”

Lee Williams said that the couple tries to accommodate every customer they can, and while their hours are only Thursday through Saturday, from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., for a lunch buffet; they won’t turn away a customer because of the time.

“One night, we had a couple come in around 10:30 p.m., and we came back and turned on our grills,” he said.

And while they are reaching out to the community, providing “top-notch” customer service, the community has returned the favor.

Last week, the couple’s youngest child stopped breathing and had to be rushed to a Birmingham hospital.

“We would like to thank the community for their prayers and well wishes for our daughter,” Lee Williams said.
