Man charged with murder attempt

A local man faces two attempted murder charges after an late Tuesday night shooting in the Pigeon Creek area.

Chief Deputy David Anderson of the Covington County Sheriff’s Office said the victim, an unidentified female, was allegedly shot with a small caliber weapon shortly after 10 p.m. She was transported to Andalusia Regional Hospital and later airlifted to a Pensacola, Fla., hospital.

Anderson said the county’s Incident Response Team was deployed “due to the fact there was a weapon involved and the residence was (in a) very rural (area).”

Anderson said the shooter was identified as Bobby John Nixon, 27, a resident of Welcome Church Road. Anderson did not elaborate on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Nixon, who also faces one count of shooting into an occupied vehicle, was apprehended at his home at approximately 7:30 a.m. and transported to the Covington County Jail, where he was being held without bond Wednesday.

Anderson said the incident remains under investigation.
