13s state begins today

Andalusia, Covington County and Opp’s 13-year-old All-Stars will compete in the Babe Ruth State Tournament over the next three days at LBWCC’s Crum Foshee Field.

Today and tomorrow’s tournament format will be pool play, with each team in the tournament guaranteed three games.

There are two divisions — American and National — with four teams in each.

Opp is in the American Division; Andalusia and host Covington County are in the National Division.

Wetumpka, Sylacauga and Atmore join Opp in the American Division, while Tallassee and Brewton join Andalusia and Covington County in the National Division.

Game one this morning will be between Opp and Wetumpka at 8. Then, Andalusia will face Tallassee at 10:30 a.m.; Brewton faces Covington County at 3:30 p.m.; and then, Covington County will face Tallassee in the last game of the day, which is slated to start at 8:30 p.m.

The first game tomorrow is slated to be between Opp and Sylacauga at 8 a.m. Brewton and Andalusia will follow at 10:30 a.m.; Opp will face Atmore at 6 p.m.; and then, Andalusia will face Covington County at 8:30 p.m.

Other games on Thursday include Sylacauga vs. Atmore at 1 p.m.; and Atmore vs. Wetumpka at 6 p.m.

The other two games on Friday include Wetumpka vs. Sylacauga at 1 p.m.; and Tallassee vs. Brewton at 3:30 p.m.

Andalusia’s game against Covington County on Friday night at 8:30 will conclude pool play for the tournament.

The No. 1 seed from the National Division will face the No. 2 seed from the American Division, and vice versa, for the semifinals, which are slated to begin at 10 a.m. on Monday. The second semifinal game between the No. 2 seed from the National Division and the No. 1 seed from the American Division will begin at 1 p.m.

The championship game is slated for 6 p.m. between the winners of the semifinal games on Monday.
