Andalusia’s 8 and under All-Stars can only grow from their experience at the Cal Ripken Southeast Regional Baseball Tournament this week.

The host Bulldogs fell in pool play action to Fishhawk, Fla., 10-0 today in four innings.

“We would’ve have traded the experience for anything,” Andalusia 8U coach Shannon Glenn said. “We had fun. We really saw some really good baseball teams that are not going to do anything but make us better.

“It was a privilege for us to be in this tournament,” he said.

Levi Peppers managed the only hit of the game for Andalusia.

Tephen Montgomery went 2-for-2 with two inside-the-park home runs; Gabe Garrett went 2-for-2; A.J. Llorente went 1-for-1; Cameron Blakey went 1-for-2; Jacob Schlarbaum went 1-for-2; and Evan Wainman had a home run to lead Fishhawk.

Fishhawk scored one run each in the first and second innings, and Andalusia held the Florida team, playing spectacular defense in the third inning.

Fishhawk put the game way out of reach with eight runs in the fourth inning.

“This experience has taught us (a lot), and we know what we’ve got to do as a city to get better in our baseball program,” Glenn said.
