Covington County and Opp will be neck-deep in baseball action this weekend at the 2012 15-year-old Babe Ruth State Baseball Tournament in Satsuma.

The local teams will play in pool play today and tomorrow, before the tournament transitions to a single elimination bracket on Monday.

Covington County is in Pool C with Matthews, Tallassee and Alex City, while Opp is in Pool A with Satsuma, Wetumpka and Brewton.

Opp will play Brewton today at 10 a.m. at Wright Park to start the tournament. Covington County will follow with a game against Tallassee at 12:15.

The last game of the day will between Opp and Satsuma at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, Covington County will face Alex City at 10 a.m. at Wright Park, and Opp plays Wetumpka at 12:15 p.m. at Lions Park.

Covington County’s final pool play game will be against Matthews at 4:45 p.m. on Sunday at Wright Park.

After pool play, two teams from each pool will advance to the single elimination bracket play, and will be seeded according to Babe Ruth tournament rule No. 11.05.

All bracket games will be held at Wright Park.

On Monday, the No. 3 seed will play the No. 6 seed at 10 a.m.; the No. 4 seed with play the No. 5 seed at 12:15 p.m.; the No. 2 seed will play the winner of No. 3-No. 6 at 2:30 p.m.; and the No. 1 seed will play the winner of No. 4-No. 5 at 4:45 p.m.

The championship is slated for 10 a.m. on Tuesday at Wright Park.
