The Opp City Council appointed Dr. Walt Burgess to the Opp Board of Education in District 2 on Monday night.

The nomination was made by District 3 councilman Mickey Crew, and was approved in a 4-1 vote.

District 2 councilman Jimmy Rogers voted against the measure.

Rogers said he had a nomination for the position, but only after Crew had placed the nomination on the floor.

Burgess will replace Jennifer Ferguson, who was elected to another term in the 2010 municipal election.

Opp City School superintendent Michael Smithart said Tuesday that he was in the process of preparing the proper affidavits and that a swearing in ceremony would be held for Burgess in the near future.
