Opp’s Riley Dunn was one of the 17 individuals injured in the Tuscaloosa shooting early Tuesday morning.

Dunn told Birmingham’s WBRC that he was at the Copper Top Bar watching a pool tournament when the shooting began and that he saw a person fall when the shooting started.

“It was like when you kick an ant bed,” he said.

Dunn was struck in his calf by either a bullet or shrapnel, and said his injuries were nothing compared to what others received.

“Some people were way much worse,” he said. “I’m mighty blessed to be in the shape I’m in. There were people shot in the stomach and chest… shoulders… There was one girl shot in both legs.”

The incident happened around 12:30 a.m., at the bar, which is located at 4th Street and 23rd Avenue.

Police have arrested Nathan Wilkins, 44, of Northport, for the incident, and will likely face charges of attempted murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling and arson. He is also suspected of setting fire to Capstone Oil in Brookwood at 3 a.m.

According to Riley’s Facebook page, he is a senior civil engineering major at the University of Alabama.

He is the son of Belinda and Ronnie Dunn of Opp.
