Mayor: Opp roads to get stripes

Opp Mayor H.D. Edgar said this week that a restriping project within the city should begin in the next three weeks.

“We’ll restripe anywhere in the city,” he said. “If you have anywhere that needs it, let’s get it on the list.”

Restri-ping has been on the top list of concerns for the city to accomplish in 2012.

In January, District 5 Councilman Oren Stewart said he’d like to see new striping placed on Opp’s most frequented streets.

“At night, the lines in the middle of the road are hard to see,” he said.

In May, District 2 Councilman Jimmy Rogers brought up that there are places on Hwy. 331, specifically at the intersection of Hwy. 52, and near the stockyard, that need restriping.

Edgar also said that Opine Road needs restriping, too, but that the city would need to have a day or two of work to get a professional company in to do the repairs.

Each of those streets is on the list, Edgar said.

City Clerk Connie Smith said they have not received a cost estimate on the project.
