Rita Leach-Nearor has announced her bid for Red Level town council place No. 4.

Nearor said her reason for seeking office is simple.

“I grew up here, and remember when we had businesses and people throughout Red Level,” she said. “With the exception of our wonderful Dollar General and the Peoples Bank, we have nothing to offer our citizens. Our youth are very important to me. I want them to be proud to tell people they are from Red Level.

“I refuse to just sit back and complain,” she said. “I realize that as a council member I would be part of a team. I am hoping and praying that everyone running in this election feels the same way. Only then, we will be able to turn things around. I would love to see Red Level grow both economically and in turn, physically.”

The daughter of David and Irma Leach, Nearor said she was reared in Red Level and graduated as the RLHS  Class of 1991 valedictorian. She is currently enrolled in LBW CC pursuing a degree in secondary education. She works as a substitute teacher for the city and county schools systems. Married to Otis Dewayne Nearor, the couple has four sons: Avery, 18; Kn’yn, 16; Ontaryo, 13; and Jackson, 9.
