Fundraising in the municipal election races dropped significantly, with only $5,640 reportedly raised by candidates last week.

Candidates are required to file weekly campaign finance disclosures with the probate judge’s office. Those with no contributions or expenses are allowed to file waiver forms.

Four candidates filed reports for the week ending July 27 – in Andalusia, mayoral candidates Earl Johnson, the incumbent, and Blaine Wilson, and district 4 candidate Johnny Godwin; and in Opp, mayoral candidate John Bartholomew.

Johnson declared a $5,000 contribution from the Alabama Economic Development PAC, while Wilson claimed $600 in contributions. Those giving to Wilson’s campaign included Andalusia residents John Franklin, who gave $300; Phillip Hudson, Frances McGowin and Jeff Thomas, who gave $100 each.

Johnson claimed no expenses, while Wilson reportedly paid his radio station, WAAO, $321 for advertising.

Godwin, who is running for the Andalusia City Council district 4 seat against Ralph Wells, listed a $40 self-contribution and $265.68 in advertising expenses with Walker Business Machine.

In Opp, Bartholomew did not list any contributions or expenses in his report. He is running against the incumbent mayor, H.D. Edgar, and Jimmy Rogers.
