JOSEPH “J.J.” EDWARDS ADAMS JR.

Joseph “J.J.” Edwards Adams Jr., 21, of Radiant, Va., died July 28, 2012, in a single car motor vehicle accident on Rt. 230 in Madison County, Va.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., today, Tues., July 31, 2012, at Beth Car Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Bill Tatum, with interment in Hebron Lutheran Church Cemetery, in Madison, Va.

He was born Feb. 11, 1991, in Atmore. He loved life and was headed home from what he loved doing most hanging out with his friends.

He was a 2009 graduate of Madison County High School. While at MCHS, he played three years of varsity football and baseball.  His senior year, he was a member of the Class A Baseball Final Four team. He was an active member of Beth Car Baptist Youth Group.  He was a junior at Virginia Western College, where he was a member of the ODU Monarch ROTC battalion. He was also a member of the Epsilon Omicron Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order at Virginia Wesleyan College.  He never knew how to “not smile” and could brighten any room up.  He was gifted with the ability to sing and be a comedian at the same time.

He is preceded in death by his stepmother, Robin Adams, and grandfather, Wayne Fowler.

He is survived by his father, Joey Adams; his 13-year-old sister Taylor Adams; his “little twin,” Hunter Adams, 9-months-old, all of Radiant, Va.; his sister, Ashley Adams, a MCHS 2010 graduate; his mother, Jennifer Knox; sister, Hannah McCurley, all of Andalusia; grandfathers, Joe Adams and Benny Knox; grandmother, Wanda Fowler; and numerous, aunts, uncles and cousins.

 

LESTER EDMOND WHEELER

Lester Edmond Wheeler, 83, of Gantt, passed away Fri,, July 27, 2012, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m., today, Tues., July 31, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Andalusia Memorial Cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Wheeler; sons and daughter-in-law, Elliott Wheeler and Lamont and Rhonda Wheeler; grandchildren, Wendy Wheeler, Rebecca (Michael Paul) Jackson, Doug Wheeler and Lex Wheeler; and one great-grandchild, Santana Nicole Lawson.

DETRA ANN TAYLOR

Detra Ann Taylor, 54, of Andalusia, passed away on Wed., July 25, 2012.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., today, Tues., July 31, at Kirk’s Funeral Chapel. Apostle Corie Clements will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Little Baptist Hill Church in Rutledge.

Survivors include her parents, Willie and Ruby C. Perry of Andalusia; her children, Andre Taylor of Atlanta, Pershenda Taylor, Jerica Zeller and Micah Sanders, all of Andalusia, and Adrian (Keona) Taylor of Montgomery; her four sisters; four brothers; and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

DIAN WORLEY SIMS

Dian Worley Sims, 58, of Mobile, passed away Sun., July 29, 2012, in a Mobile hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Wed., Aug. 1, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Canant officiating and Interment following in the Stone Lake Gardens.

The family will receive friends two hours prior to services at Keahey Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband, John Benjamin Sims Jr. of Gantt; daughters, Amy Sims of Andalusia and Melanie Sims; son, John Sims III; grandchildren, Christopher Lisenba, Hannah Lisenba, Skyler Sims and Jayden Sims, all of Mobile: one future great-grandchild; brothers and sisters, Elsie Wages, Betty Odom and David Worley, all of Andalusia, Otis (Kelli) Worley of Alexander City and Lynn (Roy) Creech of Florala; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by several special friends.

She was born July, 7 1954, in Dozier, to the late Jeff and Quinell Pitts Worley.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Hollinghead.

LORINE ‘PENNY’ GRANT

Lorine “Penny” Grant, 64, of Andalusia, died Sun., July 29, 2012, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wed., Aug. 1, from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Dean officiating and burial following in Hopewell Cemetery.

Visitation will be tonight from 6-8 p.m. at Foreman Funeral Home.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Grant of Andalusia; her sons and daughter-in-law, Carl and Rhonda Kirkland and Johnny Mack Kirkland of Andalusia; her daughters, Joanne Smith of Opp, Cathy Wickoff of Birmingham and Loranda Kay Philyaw; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her brothers, Albert Griggs and David O. Griggs; and sister, Marjorie Blackmon of Andalusia.
