Enterprise man faces DUI charges in wreck

An Enterprise man has been charged with DUI, three counts of assault II and two counts of reckless endangerment after two people were airlifted from an afternoon wreck in Opp Wednesday.

The Opp Police Department has charged Kenyatta Kirwan Hudson, 36, of Enterprise in the accident. He is being held in the Covington County jail under a $525,000 bond.

According to a statement released from the OPD Wednesday night, Hudson’s 1999 GMS Sonoma was traveling eastbound on U.S. Hwy. 84 went through a red light at a high rate of speed, striking a 2007 GMC Yukon and a 2012 Honda Accord, both of which were traveling northbound on U.S. Hwy. 331.

Two victims, whose identities had not been released at 9 p.m. Wednesday, were entrapped. Members of the Opp Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to extract them from the wreck. A female adult victim from Andalusia was evacuated by helicopter to Flowers Hospital with serious injuries. A female juvenile victim from Sacramento, Calif., was evacuated by helicopter to Pensacola.

The OPD closed the northbound lane of Ala. Hwy. 299 for approximately two hours.

The accident is under investigation by the OPD and the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
