The South Alabama Gun Club’s 29th annual Andalusia Gun and Knife Show drew a record crowd that made vendors very happy.

“We had 170 tables rented this year, and I’ve already booked 170 for next year,” organizer and club member Mike Jones Sr. said Sunday afternoon.

Jones said approximately 1,500 people bought tickets to the show on Saturday, and additional 800 showed up Sunday. Those totals don’t include the 300 club members, for whom there is no entry fee.

Club president Ab St. John said he was very pleased with the turnout, but even more pleased that the show was safe.

“Any time we have a safe show, that’s a good show,” he said.

Gun sales are up nationwide, according to a recent CBS News report quoting the FBI. The FBI estimated 10.2 million guns have been sold this year.

The report said fear of stricter gun control laws under a second Obama administration is among the things driving sales.
