A convicted sex offender from Barbour County may be moving to the Florala area.

District Attorney Walt Merrell said Wednesday, Carlton “Carl” Lee Bender, 65, pleaded guilty March 26, 2009, to sodomizing a 14-year-old girl and received a 12-year, split three-year sentence.

He served his time at a state department of corrections facility from May 5, 2009, to May 4, 2012. Bender currently resides in Wetumpka, according to the DOC website. He has applied to have his probation moved to Covington County and plans to reside on Natural Bridge Road, where sources in Florala say Bender plans to open a transition home for convicted sex offenders.
