AMS, OMS get wins at jamboree

With smiles on their faces, middle school football players got back to work Thursday night in their annual jamboree game at Straughn’s high school football stadium.

Andalusia beat Red Level 22-0 in the first game of the night, and Opp beat Straughn 14-6 in the night cap.

Andalusia 22, Red Level 0

Jamal Hourel got things going for the Bulldogs early in the first quarter with a 30-yard rush for a touchdown to give AMS an 8-0 lead.

RLMS’ defense held AMS scoreless the rest of the first quarter.

At the start of the second, Andalusia’s Michael Landrum scored on a 2-yard rush and later on with 1:39 left, Matthew Rutledge recovered a fumble and ran the ball back 48 yards for a touchdown.

Opp 14, Straughn 6

The game was scoreless until the 1:47 mark of the first quarter.

Straughn’s Matt Worley scooted in on a 3-yard rush to give the Tigers a 6-0 advantage.

Just over a minute later, Opp’s Orlando Lacey went to work, scoring on a 52-yard rush with 28.7 seconds left in the quarter. The Bobcats got the two-point conversion and led 8-6.

In the second quarter, Lacey scored again on a 41-yard rush with 2:22 left to go ahead 14-6.

Opp made one final stop at the tail end of the game with an interception on defense.

The AMS Bulldogs will play host to OMS next Thursday night at AHS. Straughn travels to play Red Level on the same night.

Kick off is set for 5:30 p.m. for all games.
