Storm prep underway in Andalusia

City of Andalusia department heads held a meeting Thursday morning to begin planning how they’ll react in case Hurricane Isaac causes problems here.
While projection models differ as to where the storm will make landfill, the models generally agree the storm will come ashore somewhere on the Gulf Coast – from Mobile to Apalachicola – and that landfall will occur late Tuesday.
Department heads discussed contingency plans for feeding city workers, calling in extra crews to restore power, and making sure there are sufficient generators to keep the city’s sewerage system operation.
There is a possibility – though slight – that the storm could postpone municipal elections in cities threatened by the storm on Tuesday. According to the Alabama League of Municipalities, a city would have to declare an emergency no later than Monday and postpone the election approximately a month if it felt severe weather would prohibit an election.
