Rumors swirled on Facebook Tuesday afternoon that members of the Andalusia Police Department were intimidating voters at the polls Tuesday.

But City Clerk John Thompson, who was responsible for yesterday’s election, said he checked with the chief voting inspector, who said nothing improper occurred.

“I was told there were several officers out there at one time, but they were talking to people who approached them, not approaching voters,” Thompson said. “I went out there several times myself. The poll workers assured me they never saw anything improper.”

Officers had been asked to make regular passes through the Kiwanis Center during the day, Thompson said.

Thompson said at least one candidate called him to complain.
