No changes in Opp results

There were no provisional votes cast in the Opp municipal election, officials said Tuesday.

The Opp City Council met Tuesday morning to canvass the election results from last Tuesday’s election.

Opp Mayor H.D. Edgar said that 2,078 votes were cast, representing 51 percent voter turnout.

In the mayoral race, John Bartholomew received 539 votes at the Brantley Street voting place, which includes Districts 1, 2, 3, and 5; 160 votes at the Hardin Street polling place, which includes District 4. He received 13 absentee votes for a total of 712.

Incumbent H.D. Edgar received 725 votes at Brantley Street; 134 votes at Hardin Street and 89 absentee votes for a total of 948 votes.

Candidate Jimmy Rogers received 308 votes at Brantley Street; 40 votes at Hardin Street and 65 absentee votes for a total of 413.

Edgar and Bartholomew will face each other in a runoff on Oct. 9, since no candidate received a majority of the votes cast.

In the district 2 city council race, Sue Bowdoin received 94 votes plus 10 absentee votes for a total of 104 votes; Holley Brundidge received 79 votes plus seven absentee votes for a total of 86 votes; T.D. Morgan received 104 votes cast and had 10 absentee votes for a total of 114 votes; Tommie Norris received 75 votes and three absentee votes for a total of 78 votes.

Bowdoin and Morgan will face off in the October runoff election.

In District 4, Aaron Baldwin received 22 votes and four absentee votes for a total of 26 votes; Mike Booth received 172 votes cast and 13 absentee votes for a total of 185 votes; incumbent Mickey Crew received 179 votes and 20 absentee votes for a total of 199 votes.

Crew and Booth will also face each other in the runoff.

In District 4, Mary Brundidge won outright with 177 votes cast and three absentee ballots for a total of 180 votes.

Mack Hines received 102 votes and six absentee for a total of 108 votes and Adrian Horstead received 53 votes and two absentee votes for a total of 55.

In District 4, Arlin Davis defeated incumbent Oren Stewart.

Davis received 368 votes plus 25 absentees for 393, while Stewart received 169 votes plus 26 absentees for a total of 195.
