There will soon be a new head at the Covington Area Transit System.

Commissioners voted Monday to advertise for a director/dispatcher for the department that provides public transportation throughout the county. Since longtime director Ruth Edson’s retirement, assistant county administrator Pam Steele has handled the duties; however, the workload has become too much, County Administrator Brenda Petty said.

“Sine there is a dispatcher in the office, it makes sense to combine the positions,” Petty said. “I believe we can work through any schedule issues there might be. It will save money and keep the program going.”

The position will be advertised in-house before taking outside applications.
