Opp head football coach Jack Whigham said the Bobcats were “very proud” to get a win last night over Excel on the road.

In fact, it was Opp’s first region win of the season.

The Bobcats scooted out to a 21-0 lead at halftime and went up 28-0 at the end of the third quarter on their way to a 35-16 victory over the Panthers.

“We’re very proud to get a win,” Whigham said. “We got to get everybody in the game who was able to play in the game.”

Cale Pierce found Justin Adkins on a pass to give the Bobcats their first score of the night. OHS went on to rush its second TD.

Whigham said he felt he needed to “mix” up the pass and the run last night.

“We tried to mix it up and got a lot of people involved,” he said. “We’re still not playing as good as we can right now. We’re still so beat up.”

Opp improves to 2-2 overall, and 1-2 in Class 3A, Region 1.

“In all honesty, we thought we would be somewhere around there this year,” Whigham said about the record.

OHS travels to face its biggest rival, Andalusia (3-1), next week in non-region action.

“We’re going to need to marshal up the troops and get ready to play a hard football game against a good football team next week,” Whigham said.
