A prescription pill take back is set for 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Thurs., Oct. 18, at Darby’s Village Pharmacy, 301 E. Three Notch St.

Residents are encourage to bring expired and unwanted prescriptions and over-the-counter medications for free and safe disposal. No personal information will be requested and no questions will be asked.

Janet Wofford of the Alabama Clean Water Partnership, a partner in the event, said the flushing of prescription and non-prescription drugs into our sewer and septic systems is becoming an increasing concern for the health of waters. Water treatment facilities are not equipped to filter out these contaminants.

The safest way to dispose of these drugs, she said, is through drug take back days.

Similar events are planned in Opp and Florala in the near future.

Other partners for the prescription pill take back event are the Covington County Children’s Policy Council Coalition, Andalusia Regional Hospital, Covington County Drug Task Force, Andalusia Police Department and Covington County Sheriff’s Department.
