Zion Chapel tops Straughn, 3-2

Straughn played its heart out Thursday night, but Zion Chapel had other plans, taking a 3-2 victory on the Lady Tigers’ senior night.
The Lady Rebels won the first game 25-14, but SHS bounced back to win the second and third games 25-20 each to make it interesting.
After falling 18-25 in the fourth game, the Lady Tigers took a 9-15 fifth game match decider loss.
SHS held a ceremony to honor Crystal Bonds, Mariah Bonham, Mary Beth Correro, Evan Frye, Courtney Fussell and Catherine Tran for their dedication to the team before the match began against the Lady Rebels.
“It was tough,” SHS coach Marc Tracy said. “We played our hearts out.”
Frye had 10 service points, five aces, eight assists and eight digs; Bonds had four blocks and four kills; Angel Carter had five service points and six digs; Jacie Williamson had eight service points, four aces, eight blocks and eight kills; Correro had six digs; Paige Taylor had nine service points, five aces, seven digs and three kills; Emily Hammett had four service points, seven assists and five digs; Chelsea Powell had three kills; Fussell had seven service points, three aces, four digs and 10 kills.
