AMS girls, boys win openers

Andalusia swept Samson in middle school basketball action Tuesday night at AMS.

The Bulldogs opened their season with a tough SMS team.

The AMS girls edged a 37-35 win over Samson on a buzzer-beating lay up, and the eighth grade boys won big, 33-15.

Andalusia will visit Samson on Monday, starting at 5 p.m. with the girls. The eighth grade team plays afterward.

Seventh grade basketball action at AMS begins on Tuesday.

SMS girls 35

Currington Ward got a steal with the game tied 35-all and made the game-winning lay up to help life the Lady Bulldogs.

Andalusia trailed 11-0 early in the first period, but outscored SMS 10-3 to get to a 14-10 deficit.

The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Tigers 8-4 in the second period and the game was tied 18-18 at half time.

Samson led 28-26 after the third period.

Tajmier Sheridan led AMS with 17 points. Aliyah Lawrence added nine.

Eighth grade boys

AMS 33, SMS 15

Jamal Hourel and Alex Sheridan scored eight points each to help lead AMS with the victory.

Andalusia led 6-2 after the first period; 11-4 at half time; and 27-11 after the third period.

Zack Woods had six points for AMS.
