There are 12 teams currently registered to participate in the Covington County Relay for Life event, but more are needed, Chairman Larry Brown said Friday.

“We’re still looking for teams to come in,” Brown said. “We have 12 committed, but we’re shooting for 30. What we have now is a far stretch from last year’s 15, so I think we can make our goal.”

Relay for Life is an organized, overnight community fundraising walk designed to serve as a culmination of months of fundraising to fight against cancer.

This year’s theme is “Playing for a Cure,” Brown said. An organizational meeting will be held on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Covington Electric Cooperative’s boardroom.

Anyone interested in establishing a Relay team or with questions about the event are urged to attend.

The fundraising goal is set at $105,000, and the 2013 Relay for Life event will be held on April 26, he said.

“When you think of what a team can do, think classic games, board games and TV shows,” he said. “There are still plenty of selections left for teams who want to come and join in the fun.

“We wanted to design an event where teams could interact with one another and make the night very fun, because that’s what this event is about – having fun,” he said.

Brown said those with questions should attend the Tuesday meeting or contact the committee via Facebook at “Covington County Relay for Life.”
