Peppy songs get crowd, team going

Straughn fans hope Friday night’s selection of pump up music will “Thunderstrike” Fayette County and make them shaky at the knees.

SHS fans say everytime they attend a football game, they only need to hear that they’ve been thunderstruck to get pumped up for the game.

“It’s got to be ‘Thunderstruck,’” former SHS football player Griffin Windham said. “There’s nothing better than hearing it on the opening kick off.”

Windham is referring to Straughn’s traditional moment at home games where a small excerpt from “Thunderstruck” is played until the kick off at 7 p.m.

“Welcome to the Jungle” by Guns ‘N’ Roses is Darlene DeVeny’s favorite.

“You’re in the Tigers’ jungle,” DeVeny said with a “LOL.”

While hard rock is a fan favorite for some, a good old country song helps get the blood going for a few.

“‘Thank God I’m a Country Boy’ (by John Denver),” Erin Dauphin said.

Lisa Hallford Bush agreed with Dauphin.

“And ‘Work Hard, Play Hard’ (by Wiz Khalifa),” added Bush.

Additional fan favorites include AC/DC’s “Back in Black,” and Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger.”
