Tylesha Malcolm had a double-double to help lead Andalusia to its first win of the season Thursday night over Pleasant Home.

Malcolm scored 21 points and added 12 rebounds in the Lady Bulldogs’ 45-42 victory.

While it was AHS’ first win of the season, it also was Lady Bulldogs coach Teresa Herring’s first win as a head basketball coach.

“It felt great,” Herring said on getting the win. “We’re rebuilding from what we had last year of course. We’re kind of learning on the fly. It’s not just me, but them as well. I have (assistant) coach (Brad) Garner here with me. He helps me out a lot.”

Andalusia held a six-point lead at halftime, another first for the Lady Bulldogs.

“It was close the entire time,” Herring said. “They have some really good shooters and played some good pressure defense.”

Herring said it was her team’s size that eventually got to Pleasant Home.

“They believed they could do it,” Herring said.

Shandrick Thompkins chipped in six points, four assists and nine rebounds to pace AHS (1-3).

Pleasant Home’s Raven Woods led the Lady Eagles (3-2) with 19 points. Ashley Williamson added 13.

“We showed a lot of effort and hustle tonight, and if we keep that up every night, then we will be fine,” PHS coach Kelley Garner said. “Andalusia’s got a good team. They’re quick and aggressive. I thought the effort was there, but we missed key buckets.”
