Red Level’s Dee Tolbert scored 26 points to help lead the Tigers to a 69-44 romp over Opp on Tuesday night.
The Tigers strutted out to a 16-3 lead after the first period, but the Bobcats had an 18-17 second period to only trail 33-21 at halftime.
Red Level and Opp were even in the third period.
“The game wasn’t much like what the score indicated,” RLS coach Allen Catrett said. “We started strong and we finished strong.”
Catrett said Opp’s great second and third period shed light on many things that need to be worked on.
“We’ve got a lot to work on (today) to make sure we’re fixing the mistakes we had,” he said. “We didn’t play defense like Red Level’s supposed to.”
KJ Lawrence and Tim Sims also had a good night for the Tigers (4-2) with 12 points each. Spencer Stallworth cashed in 11 points.
Opp’s Derek Savage and Tavise Stoudemire led the Bobcats with 11 points each.
In girls action, the Lady Bobcats smacked Red Level, 55-23.
Nisha Stoudemire led OHS with 14 points. Asia Edwards and Saquaya Lane added 13 points each.
Red Level’s Kayla Hinson had 12 points and Shelby Holley chipped in seven points.
Opp also beat Red Level 38-17 in junior varsity action.
Raheem Bonam had 10 points to lead OHS. Chris Morrow shed in eight points and Devontae Williams added seven points.
Red Level’s O. Carter had eight points.
Red Level will face New Brockton tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. in Straughn’s Christmas Tournament.
Opp’s girls will face Andalusia’s girls at 5:30 p.m.; and the boys will face Elba at 7 p.m., both tomorrow night.
