Those taking garbage to the Opp landfill will soon pay a higher price for dumping.
The Opp City Council is poised to increase their garbage pick up fees for trucks and trailers.
Currently the fees range from $10 for a single-axle dump truck and trailer that hauls 6 cubic yards or less, to $20 for a tri-axle dump truck and trailer that can haul up to 21 cubic yards.
At the Dec. 3 workshop Opp Mayor John Bartholomew said the city was exploring ways to make more money, and that the city was losing money on garbage hauled into the landfill.
Under the proposed ordinance set to be approved at the Jan. 7 meeting, the price will increase significantly.
Single-axle dump trucks and trailers capable of hauling 6 cubic yard or less will pay $45.
Tandem-axle dump trucks or trailers capable of hauling up to 15 cubic yards will increase to $65 from $15.
Tri-axle dump trucks or trailers capable of hauling up to 21 cubic yards will now cost $95.
Additionally, the new ordinance will institute charges for dumping electronic waste such as monitors, desktop computer sets, computers, radios and other waste.
Monitors, televisions and computer towers will cost $5 per piece, and radio, telephone, handheld devices and keyboards will cost $2.50 each.
“We have to charge a fee for receiving electronics because we have to haul them to Coffee County and they charge a fee,” Bartholomew said.
