WILLIAM EDWARD ‘ED’ TURNER

William Edward “Ed” Turner, 95, of Andalusia, passed away on Sat., Dec. 5, 2012, following a brief illness.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Vivian; daughter, Martha Turner Terry (Frank); son, William Terry Turner (Carolyn); grandchildren, William Grant Terry (Holly Margaret) of Mexico Beach, Fla., Amy Turner and Carrie Thomasson (Clay); niece, Mary Jo Littlefield (Ward); nephew, Bill Turner Hensley (Fran), both of Martinsville, Va.; and extended family, Jerry Williamson and Mike Holloway.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Posey and Martha Burgess Turner; sisters, Mary Turner Lacy, Elizabeth Turner Hensley, and his twin, Emily Turner, all of Martinsville, Va.

He was born June 21, 1917, in Henry County, Va. Upon completing his education, he joined the Army Air Force in 1942 and was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base prior to his discharge in 1946. He retired after 28 years with General Telephone and 10 years as manager of the city utilities department.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club until his retirement. He was a founding member and volunteer with the Andalusia Rescue Squad for 30 years. He served as a trustee on the board of Alabama Electric Cooperative and was active in numerous other civic and charitable organizations.

He will be remembered as a loving, compassionate, kind and giving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

As was his desire to always be of assistance to others, he continues to give through the donation of his body to medical science.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

 

BETTY STURGIS HARRELSON MANCILL

Mrs. Betty Sturgis Harrelson Mancill, 73, of Andalusia passed away Sun., Dec.16, 2012.

Funeral services were held Dec. 19, 2012, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Boles officiating and interment following in Stone Lake Gardens.

Survivors include her son, Steven Harrelson of Dozier; her daughters, Sherry (Randy) Coxwell of Loango, Sheila Berry of Red Level and Angie (Micah) Wilson of Red Level;

her sisters, Carolyn Johns and Patsy Johns, both of Andalusia; her grandchildren, Amanda (Kevin) Hart, Steve Harrelson, Randall (Kayla Marie) Coxwell, Kayla Ann Coxwell, Austin Berry, Savannah Mock, Matthew (Erin) Wilson, Marlana Wilson, and Megan Wilson; and nine great-grandchildren

Serving as pallbearers were Micah Wilson, Tommy Averill, Brandon Averill, Buddy Johns, Zach Averill and Robert Berry.
