The Red Level water system will soon get a technological upgrade in the form of a wireless meter reading system.
Bids will be awarded Feb. 12 for the project that will replace 310 existing residential and commercial water meters with new radio read meters, a wireless system and a computer system and software. Also included in the project is the replacement of approximately 100 standard meter boxes, 10 traffic-grade meter boxes, 100 curb stops and 100 double-check valves.
Shane Cook, Red Level’s water operator, said the project will meet many needs.
“We are extremely happy about getting the new meters,” Cook said. “This will help us better account for water loss and meter water usage more precisely. This will also cut down on man-hours for (meter) reading time greatly.
“It will also help customer service,” he said.
