The city of Opp is once again looking for a building inspector.
Newly hired building inspector Phillip Forsberg resigned after Friday night’s meeting with contractors, Mayor John Bartholomew said.
“It was for personal reasons,” Bartholomew said. “We’re going to offer that position again.”
At Friday night’s meeting, some contractors expressed their uncertainty of Forsberg’s qualifications.
The meeting was called in order for the city to clear up rumors associated with its newly passed fee schedule and new building code.
The council created the position in December and hired Forsberg in January.
Bartholomew said the new position has a starting pay of $25,000, but the salary would increase with certifications.
The person hired will be responsible for permits, housing inspections, abating properties and other tasks similar to those.
Bartholomew said Thursday that he expects the city will post the job by next week.
“I need to talk to the city council,” he said. “This was kind of thrown upon us.”
