“Flood the pond” – That was the advice Straughn High School girls basketball coach Scott Kinsaul gave the student body at Tuesday’s pep rally, held before the team departed for today’s start of the final four tournament in Birmingham.

Kinsaul remarked on the school’s ability to “show up and sound off,” citing fans ability to show their school spirit.

Cheer sponsor Tina Shiver said at Saturday’s game in Dothan against Opp, civic center staff gave props to fans.

“They said we were the loudest group of fans that they’d ever heard in that place,” Shiver said.

Shiver said fans are encouraged to bring cut up T-shirts to waive for spirit markers.

“Show up and be loud,” she said.

Kinsaul took his advice one step further.

“We’ll be facing Holly Pond, so I want all of you – all the people in the community – to show up and show ‘em how we do it in Straughn and flood the pond.”

Tip-off is at 3 p.m. at the BJCC Arena.
