A pproximately 500 people visited the Alfa/Covington County Young Farmers Federation’s annual family farm day and petting zoo Friday.

Brett Mack, CCYFF president, said the event is an important way to education kids about the importance of agriculture.

Area farmers and pet owners loaned the animals for the day. Exhibits included a bull, cow and calves, mule, donkeys, llama, pheasant, roosters, rabbits, goats, lambs, ponies, miniature horses, and the ever-popular baby chicks.

Farmers also loan equipment, which many children enjoy, Mack said.

“There aren’t as many farms as there once was, and many children aren’t exposed to farms and animals,’ he said. “This is a way we can promote agriculture.
