Rain hurt Rodeo, not enough for claim

The rain that fell during the Opp Rattlesnake Rodeo wasn’t enough to warrant an insurance claim, city officials said Monday.

Mayor John Bartholomew said .38 inches was recorded – .12 inches shy of the needed .5 for insurance purposes.

“We don’t have an official revenue total yet,” he said of the weekend’s take. “The rain did hurt us, but it just wasn’t enough for the insurance.”

Councilman Arlin Davis said that in spite of the rain, city employees described the event as “one of the best-runned (sic) events ever.”
