Scale back participation low

The “weight” is over for local totals in Scale Back Alabama, and the results were slim, organizers said Wednesday.

Weigh-outs for the 10-week weight loss competition were held this week in Andalusia Regional Hospital’s front lobby.

The competition, which is designed to capitalize on weight loss for New Year’s resolutions and create a fun atmosphere for weight loss and physical activity, is in its seventh season.

ARH’s Valarie McCalman said, while it was “a good Scale Back Alabama season,” the turnout rate for local weigh outs was not incredibly high.

“We had 80 participants, or 20 teams,” she said. “Nine individuals met the goal of losing 10 pounds or more.”

McCalman said the nutrition class taught by registered dietician John Newsome and held in conjunction with the 10-week program was well attended.
