The Covington County Sheriff’s Office is the host agency for the local “Cops on Top” fundraiser benefiting the Alabama Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics of Alabama.
Deputies and other area law enforcement officers will scale the Andalusia Wal-Mart to collect donations on Fri., April 19, and Sat., April 20, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
This is the 28th anniversary of the ALETR. In 1985, law enforcement officers from 10 different agencies throughout Alabama organized the first torch run. In 2012, the ALETR raised more than $100,000 dollars statewide to benefit the Special Olympics. The funds that are raised annually support the year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The Torch Run is committed to raise funds and public awareness for Special Olympics.
