OHS girls win PHS tourney

Opp rallied from three runs down to beat Kinston 6-5 in the semifinals of Pleasant Home’s annual softball tournament on Saturday night.
The Lady Bobcats trailed 5-2 and scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning in the win.
They took their momentum all the way to the championship game, where Opp beat Brantley, 10-0.
Octavia Thompson went 2-for-3 with a triple, and Cayla Hughes went 1-for-2 with a double to lead the Lady Bobcats. Anna Harrelson went 1-for-2 with an RBI in the semifinals.
Paige Johnson and Laiken Free had one hit each for OHS.
Harrelson pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs on five hits while striking out two to get the win.
In the championship game, OHS scored one run in the first inning, four runs in the second and five runs in the third to get the mercy rule win. The Lady Bobcats held BHS to no runs in the final two innings of the game.
Free, Laura Kate Young and Kelley Pierce batted two runners in each in the win.
Savannah Gerber went 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI to lead Opp in hitting.
Katlynn Schively struck out three and allowed four hits in five innings for the win.
In other tournament action, the host team fell 7-5 to Straughn to get put out of the tournament.
Pleasant Home’s Raven Woods hit a three-run home run to help lift the Lady Eagles to a 5-4 win over Kinston in early pool play action.
PHS picked up its second loss in pool play to Brantley, as it fell 4-2.
