A Chicago man has been charged with vehicular homicide in the April death of a 26-year-old Andalusia man.

According to Evergreen Police Detective Mike Ellis, the accident occurred April 11 around 4:22 a.m. on U.S. Hwy, 84 just east of the airfield.

“When officers arrived on scene, they discovered there was a passenger car that had ran under an 18-wheeler trailer,” Ellis said. “The driver of the passenger car was deceased at the time the officers arrived on scene. The driver of the 18-wheeler was uninjured.”

Evergreen firefighters, Conecuh EMS and Coroner Michael Lambert were all called to the scene, where Lambert pronounced the driver of the passenger car dead, Ellis said. The car’s driver was later identified as 26-year-old Jason Scott Grace of Andalusia, who worked as a courier for a medical lab in Covington County.

“The Alabama State Troopers were called in to assist in the investigation of the accident,” Ellis said. “The driver of the 18-wheeler was charged with homicide by vehicle.”

The investigation is ongoing, he said.

According to officials at the Conecuh County Jail in Evergreen, Kendrick Magazine, 36, of Chicago, Ill., was charged with vehicular homicide in Grace’s death. He was released on a $20,000 bond.
