One is in custody and another being sought after an attempted robbery near Robinson Park Sunday.

Andalusia Police investigator Roger Cender said the incident occurred at 7 p.m. when Brendon Curry and Aaron Rhudy allegedly approached a vehicle on Railroad Avenue.

“The driver pulled into a spot at the park,” Cender said. “Curry approached driver and demanded money. When the driver said he didn’t have any, Curry pulled out a can of Mace, opened the driver door, climbed over the driver and proceeded to rummage through the center console for money or something of value.”

Cender said as the driver attempted to put the vehicle in reverse to “get away from the situation,” Rhudy opened the back door.

“That was when he climbed over a 2-year-old and sucker punched the driver in the face,” Cender said. “The driver was able to flee and locate a patrol officer nearby.”

After issuing “be on the lookout” for the suspects, Officer David Darby located Curry, who was traveling in the area on foot.

The two were involved in a physical altercation that ended when Curry was arrested. Darby suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Curry was charged with attempted robbery II, assault II on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest and attempting to elude. He was held on a $306,000 bond.

At press time, Rhudy remained at large.
