GULF SHORES — Pleasant Home scored eight runs in the top of the fourth inning and went on to beat Brantley 17-4 tonight in the loser’s bracket finals of the Class 1A South Regional Softball Tournament.

The Lady Eagles bounced back from falling 5-1 to rival Kinston in the winner’s bracket finals in earlier action, and overcame an early 2-1 deficit to the Lady Bulldogs to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the third inning.

In other 1A action, Florala beat McKenzie 2-1 in the loser’s bracket to force a game against Brantley in the loser’s semifinals.

FHS led 1-0 for most of its game against MCHS. The Lady Wildcats added one run in the bottom of the sixth, where Bailea Rickett scored her second run of the game off of an RBI single from Lydsee Edwards. Rickett scored earlier in the bottom of the first on an error.

Lily Ritzel struck out 12 hitters in seven innings and allowed one run on three hits for the win.

Brantley took a 5-2 lead in the fifth inning, and went on to beat Florala 10-2 in the loser’s bracket semifinal game. The Lady Wildcats finished their season 19-19.

Kinston 5, Pleasant Home 1

Kinston’s Emily Mock hit an RBI double to left center that scored Madison Weeks to give the Lady Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Pleasant Home got off to a slow start in the first two innings of play behind the plate, but made up for it on defense, where Emily Byrd was in full command after giving up the early run.

Play resumed at about 10:21 a.m. in the top of the third inning.

Kinston started the third with a two-run triple from Chelbie Fuller to make it 3-0.

PHS answered back with a run in the bottom half of the inning on an Anna Bulger RBI.

The Lady Bulldogs added two runs in the sixth on an RBI triple from Breeann Biddle, and an RBI single from Arissa Davis.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs are the No. 1 seed going into next week’s state tournament.
