GULF SHORES — Rain and lightning are the story today at the South Regional Softball Tournament in Gulf Shores.

Class 1A softball teams started action at 8 a.m. today, and played for about 24 minutes until play was stopped due to lightning. From there, a 30-minute delay resumed.

After the 30 minutes were up, Alabama High School Athletic Association tournament officials extended the delay until 10:30 a.m., where all softball action is set to resume.

Pleasant Home-Kinston

Kinston’s Emily Mock hit an RBI double to left center that scored Madison Weeks to give the Lady Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Pleasant Home got off to a slow start in the first two innings of play behind the plate, but made up for it on defense, where Emily Byrd was in full command after giving up the early run.

Florala-McKenzie

Florala’s Bailea Rickett scored on an error in the bottom of the first to give the Lady Wildcats an early 1-0 lead.
