Allen Butler won the Youth Black Belt Forms and Weapons Grand Championship on Saturday at the USYKA Traditional Karate Tournament in Adamsville.

Including Butler, four Andalusia Isshinryu Karate students competed in weapons, forms and fighting divisions for their age and belt rank.

Andalusia students brought home six first-place awards in addition to Butler’s grand championship.

The local students placed as follows:

• Allen Butler — Youth Black Belt Forms and Weapons Grand Champion; first place in youth black belt kata and fighting; and third place in youth black belt weapons.

• Thomas Rudd — third place in men’s lightweight black belt fighting.

• Taj Patel — first place in brown belt kata and weapons.

• Mack McIntyre — first place in yellow belt kata and fighting.

Andalusia’s Isshinryu Karate class will be back in action as it hosts the 15th annual South Alabama Karate Open Tournament on Sat., June 8, at Straughn High School. Schools from all over the southeastern United States are slated to attend.
