The National Hurricane Center in Atlanta is monitoring a weak, low-pressure area over the south-central Gulf of Mexico.

Satellite imagery suggested the circulation of the low became slightly better defined Monday, and additional, gradual development is possible in the next few days. As of 8 p.m. Monday night, forecasters gave it a 30 percent chance of becoming a tropical or subtropical storm during the next 48 hours.
