JAMES F. GRIGGS

James F. Griggs, 88, of Andalusia, passed away on Tues., June 4, 2013.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Keahey Funeral Home.

 

BETTY CREECH

Betty Creech, 81, of Loango, passed away on Sun., June 2, 2013, in the Andalusia Manor.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, Wed., June 5, at Hopewell Baptist Church with the Rev. Barry Wilkinson officiating, with interment following in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church 30 minutes prior to services.

Survivors include her sons Curtis O’Neal Creech and Michael Tracy Creech, both of Red Level; her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Dave Sargent of Orlando, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Richard Russo; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Pat and Faye Patterson, all of Orlando, Fla., and Sam and Joanne Patterson of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be the deacons of Hopewell Baptist Church.

JOHNNY EDWARD CASTLEBERRY

Former District 4 Covington County Commissioner Johnny Edward Castleberry, 81, died Sun., June 2, 2013, at a local nursing home. He was elected and served five terms as a county commissioner from 1984 until he retired in 2004.

He was born in 1932 and raised in the Buck Creek Community. He was son of the late Turner and Ethel Lee Lawson Castleberry.

He was a member of Buck Creek Baptist Church and a member of the Red Level High School Class of 1950. He served in the United States Air Force from 1951–1955, the last three years he was stationed in Oxford, England.

Upon returning from military service, he joined his father in the family farming business. He was a member of the Covington County Cattleman’s Association and various other farm-related associations.

He was an active member of the Red Level Quarterback Club and often grilled hamburgers at the football games. He was also a member of the Fairmount Masonic Lodge #238 and the Covington County Shrine Club.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., today, Wed., June 5, at Buck Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Boles officiating and interment following in Buck Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church 30 minutes prior to services.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Buck Creek Baptist Church Building Fund c/o Billy Joe Sharpe, 33715 Bryant Road, Red Level, AL 36474; Comfort Care Hospice, or the charity of one’s choice.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Janice Eiland Castleberry of Red Level; his daughter and son-in-law, Janna and Stuart Foshee of Red Level; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Dottie Pippin Castleberry of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; grandchildren, Margo (Brad) Sharpless, Megan (Jason) Sasser, Marcus McIntyre, Taylor Castleberry and Anna Hancy; his great-grandchildren, Mitchell Sasser, Marley Sharpless and John Holland Sharpless; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda and Don Ingram and Glinda and Bill Carter of Gantt; and sister-in-law, Ann Castleberry of Red Level.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Turner D. and Ethel Lee Castleberry; his brother, Joyce Castleberry; five half sisters and two half brothers.

Active pallbearers will be Keith Milton, Brad Sharpless, Jerry Ward, Reese Castleberry, Mickey Pitts, Tony Ingram and Kip Carter.

Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons and the men’s Sunday school class of Buck Creek Baptist Church.

RYAN SELLERS

Ryan Sellers, 23, of McKenzie, passed away on Sat., June 1, 2013, at his residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thurs., June 6, at Keahey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clifton Morris officiating and burial following in Fairmount Baptist Church with Keahey Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends tonight from 6-8 at Keahey Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Alisha Sellers of McKenzie; father, Ray (Dawn) Sellers of Brantley; mother, Mona (Jake) Halford of McKenzie; two sons, Alex Sellers and Sckylor Sellers; daughters, Lexi Sellers and Adalyn Sellers, all of McKenzie; four brothers, Brandon (Olivia Bush) Sellers, Josh Sellers and Cameron Sellers, all of McKenzie, and Dyan Davis; sisters, Emily Thomasson, both of Evergreen, Kacey Hartford of McKenzie and Kristy Halford and Greenville; maternal grandparents, Anna (Bobby) Weaver; two cousins, Holly Tolbert of Castleberry and Brittany (Darrell) Tolbert of McKenzie; aunt, Lynn Bush; uncle, Edgar Shipp; and two nephews, Kayden and Karson Odom.

 

HELEN THORN

Helen Thorn, 66, of Andalusia passed away on Sat., June 1, 2013, at her residence.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Mon., June 3, at Keahey Funeral Home with the Rev. John Hunt officiating. Special music was provided by David Wiggins. Burial followed in Scripture Truth Baptist Church Cemetery with Keahey Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include her son, Jeff Dewayne Musgrove of Opp; daughter, Mandy Anderson of Opp; brothers, James Spann and Franklin Spann; sisters, Elizabeth Dursema, Peggy Wiggins, Opal Pitts, Debra Anderson, Mildred Littlefield and Wanda Clark; four grandchildren, Ashley Lawrence, Savannah Lawrence, David Kyser and Jeff Musgrove Jr.; and one great-grandchild, Kaden Kyser.
