Police said that two Thursday night/Friday morning break-in and assaults with a knife are unrelated.

Red Level Police Chief Howard West said he was called to a residence on Main Street in Red Level around midnight to a report of a male suspect entering a home through an unlocked door and possibly attempting to assault a young female.

The second incident occurred at approximately 3 a.m. at home near Welcome Church Road, just north of McKenzie, where a young mother awoke when a middle-aged white male broke into her home and held a knife to her neck.

While across the county line, both incidents occurred within a few miles of each other, and both victims were able to get away from the intruders and call 911.

West and Butler County Sheriff Kenny Harden agreed, that while appearing to occur under the same circumstances, the two incidents are unrelated.

Police believe the McKenzie incident was a continuation of an earlier domestic incident.

West said no other details on the Red Level incident would be released as it remains under investigation.
