Man pleads to rape of child

A Luverne man has pleaded guilty to a 2009 rape of a child in Opp.

Freddie O’Neal Takersley was arrested in 2010 raping and sodomizing a child and was held on a $100,000 bond. Takersley, represented by Corey Bryan, was among those entering pleas with the Covington County District Attorney’s Office in May. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison; however, he has applied for probation.

Of those entering pleas, 49 percent (20) were drug-related, while 39 percent (16) were crimes against property/person; and 12 percent (5) were child/sex crimes. These numbers include three previously reported on by The Star-News.

Other pleas included that of:

• Calvin L. Adams, who pleaded guilty to possession of alcohol on a school campus and was sentenced to 32 months of probation.

• Stephen A. Ainsworth, who pleaded guilty to possession of a forged instrument II and possession of a controlled substance. He was sentenced to six years imprisonment. Attorney: Bart Boothe

• William Lee Bailey, who pleaded guilty to failing to register as a convicted sex offender and was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment. Attorney: Chris Sledge

• Guy Allen Bolling, who pleaded guilty to failing to register as a convicted sex offender and was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. Attorney: Larry Grissett

• Tra’va K. Chambers, who pleaded guilty to distribution of a controlled substance and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. That sentence was suspended for 18 months probation. Attorney: Bill Alverson

• Charles L. Coleman, who pleaded to distribution of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance and was sentenced to eight years in prison. Attorney: Manish Patel

• Lakeisha E. Crittenden, who pleaded guilty to theft of property I and was sentenced to 115 months imprisonment. Attorney: Benton Persons

• Deonte Curry, who pleaded to distribution of a controlled substance and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. That sentence was suspended for 18 months probation. Attorney: Meredith Peters

• Chineca L. Demmings, who pleaded guilty to theft of property III and was sentenced to 31 months probation. Attorney: Gypsy Smith

• Joshua W. Ellzey, who pleaded to distribution of a controlled substance and was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment. Attorney: Corey Bryan

• Christopher J. Farris, who pleaded to possession of a controlled substance and entered into drug court. Attorney: David Harrison

• Kandi S. Halford, who pleaded to manufacturing of a controlled substance II and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Attorney: John Peek

• Shane M. Harville, who pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Attorney: Chris Sledge
