What is there to do in Covington County on a hot weekend day? That’s right – hit the water.

Wakeboarding is a fast-growing and competitive sport, and Covington County is home of some of the smoothest

waters around.

Derek Fore of Andalusia and his family spend nearly every weekend at Pt. A.

“I enjoy wakeboarding because there is always something new, eithe

r a new trick I want to try or helping a friend get up on a wakeboard for the first time,” Fore said. “My favorite is watching my daughter, Abbie, enjoy the water.”

Fore said the family’s love of the water prompted them to hire a professional for their toddler.

“We got her a ski trainer when she was 3 years old, and just like me, she was hooked from the first time,” he said. “We usually have to make her get in the boat so someone else can have a turn. At the end of the day, it’s about enjoying my family and friends. It seems like the water brings us all closer.”

Fore said in the last few years, the sport has really come a long way with the

boat manufacture

s making boats that produce larger wakes.

“The larger wake gives riders the chance to stay in the air longer and helps them land their tricks, and that’s what it’s

all about,” he said.
