Fourth celebrations postponed

The Fourth of July will still be celebrated in Covington County with a bang, just a bang that will happen a couple of days late.

Both Andalusia and Opp have rescheduled their with firework shows for Saturday, as the weather forecast calls for 100 percent chance of rain on Thursday, Independence Day..

Andalusia’s tourism and relocation committee will host a community-wide celebration at the Kiwanis fairgrounds, with musical entertainment by Michael Kelley and Kat Dean, Christian Wossilek and the Ric McNaughton Band.

Gates open at 6 p.m. and fireworks begin at dark.

Concessions will be available; however, free watermelon slices will be served until the last slice is gone.

In Opp, the city and those at Frank Jackson State Park have teamed up to for festivities, with the Dusty Sanderson Band in concert from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the state park. Admission to the park is free that afternoon, and free hotdogs and watermelon will be given away. Fireworks also will be shot at dark.
