JOHN THOMAS

SELLERS

John Thomas Sellers, 67, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and son, passed away on Tues., July 30, 2013, in Tuscaloosa. Services to celebrate his life will be held at 9 a.m. Fri., Aug. 2, at Red Oak Baptist Church in Andalusia, with military honors. The Rev. John was born Aug. 20, 1945, in Mobile, to Beatrice Lucile Aughtman Sellers and Thomas Jackson Sellers. He attended Straughn High School in Andalusia. He later earned his associate of arts degree at Lurleen B. Wallace Junior College, and baccalaureate degree from Faulkner University.

John served his country honorably for more than 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, earning numerous military decorations and citations, including the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal. He spent six years in foreign service, serving longest at bases in the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia. After retiring from the military, he continued his career in public service with the state of Alabama, assisting military veterans with finding employment.

John had a lifelong passion for reading and would rarely be found without a book nearby. He loved the outdoors, and spent his time fishing or hunting. He enjoyed discussing politics and current affairs, and participating in civic events. He proudly served other veterans as a member and officer of American Legion Post No.123 in Tuscaloosa.

Most importantly, John loved the Lord, Jesus Christ. In his last months, he attended the Church of Christ in Geneva.
